The writer calls for diligence, pointing to the power of God’s word to penetrate man’s soul. Next he states that we have a Great High Priest, Jesus Christ, and He knows our weaknesses and is merciful still.
Christ’s Rest is Salvation
Christians trust Christ alone for salvation, by faith, or fall short of entering His salvation. Since some Jews began to doubt salvation through faith in Jesus’ finished work of the Cross, they are encouraged rest in Him.
Rebellious Hearts
A heart too hard to allow God in is a rebellious heart, one that brings God’s wrath. Here are warning to those dissatisfied with Christ. Warning them of a wilderness death for abandoning Him.
More Glory Than Moses
Moses was so high up in the mind of the Jews in the days that Hebrews was written, that serious attention to Jesus over even Moses was necessary. Christ, sent by love, from His throne in heaven for souls on earth.
Author of Our Salvation
Jesus placed Himself amongst sinners by merging into humanity; finishing His work by allowing Himself to be killed for our salvation. Being without sin, He was the perfect sacrifice, both Author and doer for sinners.
