On the first Palm Sunday Jesus entered Jerusalem four days before the Passover lambs were slain. He was the Passover Lamb of God. When He saw the city He wept because they rejected Him, God’s Son and their Savior.
A Better Hope — A Better Covenant
Contrast between the system and priesthood of Moses, and the ministry and priesthood of Christ, are Scripturally and rationally made. Jesus brings a better hope to draw near to God by a better covenant.
Mystery of Melchizedek
The writer takes his audience to a mysterious passage in Genesis that was preserved by God for this very moment and mission. To prepare them to accept a priesthood superior to the one given to them by Moses.
God is Reliable
In a gentle tone he tells them that better things belong to our salvation. Nudging them forward, encouraging them not to be sluggish, since God is faithful, as Abraham realized. God’s reliability is an anchor of hope.
Doom of Apostates
Having pointed out that their mixed feelings about Christ rendered them low interest Christians, he proceeds to warn them that this is a pathway to apostasy, a path from which there is little, if any, chance of recovery.
