The first covenant through Moses was packed with symbolic illustrations of the Person and work of Jesus Christ. That system failed to bring sinners all the way to God, it barred us, but Christ removed the barrier.
A New Covenant
Referencing the prophet Jeremiah, the writer points out to his Hebrew audience that their own prophet had promised a new arrangement with God, which we know is through Jesus Christ alone, a new covenant.
A Better Promise
Our better hope is built on a better Person; our High Priest Who ministers to us not before the throne of God but on the throne of God. Jesus Christ is the reality and authority behind all of Judaism’s symbols.
Who Christ Is
The Lord Jesus wanted it to make His identity clear to His disciples, that there would be no uncertainty as to Who it was Whom they followed, that He, Jesus, is the Messiah, God the Son. He is still making this clear to His followers.
Those Tears of Christ
On the first Palm Sunday Jesus entered Jerusalem four days before the Passover lambs were slain. He was the Passover Lamb of God. When He saw the city He wept because they rejected Him, God’s Son and their Savior.
