First comes Jotham, a great king in Judah who “did what was right in the sight of the Lord.” Then came his son Ahaz to Judah’s throne after his father Jotham’s death. Ahaz was grotesque and a full blown apostate, and fool.
Jotham and Ahaz
Blunder of a Great King
Uzziah was one of Judah’s greatest kings. He enjoyed so many achievements because of His love and obedience to God. But in a moment, in a single act of self-serving pride, he forever marred his righteous record. Still, he was good.
Pathway to Apostasy
Amaziah begins by exercising justice on his father murders. Then, due to his spiritual dullness, a man of God warns and advises him to send away his hired idolatrous mercenaries. Then wars, rebukes, apostasy and assassination
King of Ingrates
After the intrigue of the previous chapter which gave Judah a new king, we now follow his days of rule under the influence of Jehoiada; temple restoration, Jehoiada’s death, apostasy, ingratitude, murder then Divine judgment.
