The first of three groups of Jews return to the Promised Land. Ezra 2 is an honor roll of those who stepped out in faith: leaders, people, priests, Levites, Nethinim, children of Solomon’s servants and the unconfirmed.
Captivity Ends
The Jewish people had been subject to Babylonian captivity for seventy years just as Jeremiah the prophet foretold. Now, Cyrus King of Persia, was ending their captivity, just as Isaiah the prophet foretold.
Judah’s Last Fool Kings
Here is the sad story of Judah’s last four kings and their evil which ends in the destruction of Jerusalem, Solomon’s temple and captivity of all but a remnant. The chapter ends with an almost identical paragraph to Ezra 1:1-3
Josiah’s Passover and Mistake
A Passover feast like none since the days of Samuel is celebrated with full blown care before the Lord. Then Josiah makes a fatal mistake, putting his quest for glory ahead of obedience to the Lord, Josiah dies from combat wounds.
High Hearted Devotion
Josiah, the last good king of Judah takes the throne. At age sixteen he devoted his heart to Yahweh. He purged and repaired the house of God, pulverized idolatrous objects, received the finding of the Book and inspired true worship.
