Hezekiah faced a terminal illness at the very time Assyria invaded Judah. He prays and is healed, but his heart was filled with pride so God’s wrath loomed, but he repents. The chapter ends with a brief note on how God blessed him.
Intense Tests of Faith
The Assyrian king came invades Judah because King Hezekiah was determined to recover the independence of his nation, refused to pay the tribute his father had bound him to pay to Assyria. The test of his faith was most intense.
Care for Temple Servants
The reaction of those who came to the now restored temple for worship in Jerusalem, from Judah and the northern tribes, was to rid their lands of idolatry. The people acted on their faith and gave abundantly to support their ministers.
Permissions from Grace
The speed at which King Hezekiah move in restoring worship to Jerusalem was faster than the purification rituals could keep up with. Having invited Jews from all of the Promised Land, God granted special permissions.
The King Who Restored
Hezekiah, one of the best kings of the Jews, now comes to the throne. It was largely because of his godly mother that he turned out so different from his wicked father Ahaz. With great zeal he restored true worship to Judah.
