In bullheaded fashion, David insists on doing what he knows is outside of God’s will, and before he submits, the deed will be done. As so often with sin, once the act is committed the realization and conviction hit with consequence.
Christ’s Finished Work
This chapter ends with the clear teaching that Jesus Christ will never suffer and die again. That He has taken care of business on behalf of all who will believe according to the Scripture; they be with Him forever!
Kingdoms of Fools
A kind gesture by King David towards a kingdom that suffered the loss of their own king results in full out war. This is the cost of kingdoms run by fools as told in the story. May the kingdom of our own heart learn from these lessons.
Christ’s Blood
Blood is the emphasis in this section. Old Testament Jewish worship was bloody, yet the New Testament overrules that old system of animal bloodshed by the blood of Jesus Christ for sinners. Blood still matters.
Glorious Symbols
The first covenant through Moses was packed with symbolic illustrations of the Person and work of Jesus Christ. That system failed to bring sinners all the way to God, it barred us, but Christ removed the barrier.
