The Lord again laments Israel’s turning to dead idols and away from Him the Living God. Babylon’s false gods will not save them from the Lord’s servant Cyrus. God states it clearly “Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish.”
Ruler and Overruler
Cyrus is the LORD’s Chosen Instrument. The LORD rules in the affairs of men (Dan 4:17). Isaiah tells of the future conversion of Gentiles and that God seeks those that will trust in Him and let Him be LORD of their lives.
Redemption on God’s Calendar
God forgives and God redeems, Israel is not forgotten and Judah will be restored, but only on God’s schedule. He knows the end from the beginning, even calling out Cyrus future King of Persia 150 years before he is born.
The god-makers Club
God has blessed Israel, but thru His profit He emphasizes the folly of idolatry; there is no other God. The LORD uses some interesting word pictures to illustrate the foolishness of man-made gods.
Creator, Owner and Lord
God, thru Isaiah, reassures that He is the Redeemer of Israel even though Israel is unfaithful. The LORD gives a promise of victory, they are God’s witness and Babylon will be destroyed. The Lord reminds them of the shortcomings of Israel, but that in the end He is Sovereign of all.
