This king survived the Arabian sword but not his friendship with the wicked. His willing apprenticeship to sorcerers cost him his life, limiting his reign to one year. His wicked mother seized power, killing the Davidic heirs, except one.
The Vile King
Jehoram is now king. He murdered his brothers, walked in the ways of the northern wicked kings, and promoted idolatry. God withdrew blessings from him and used Elijah to prophesy Jehoram’s severe and painful death.
God with the Godly King
God chastens the king and he responds wonderfully. Enemies then invade Judah, as the devil does, and again the king calls on the Lord Who responds and gives a miraculous victory. Later, the king again stumbles and is chastened.
King of Bad Company
King Jehoshaphat kept apostates as friends which nearly cost him his life. It began when he gave his son to marry evil Ahab’s daughter, then joined his army to Ahab’s. Micaiah the prophet stood against Ahab; Ahab died in battle.
A Good King’s Great Start
The next king in Judah was the good and godly King Jehoshaphat. Everything he put his hands to God blessed and protected in the early years of his reign. He grew the army, fortified cities, and had the people taught God’s word.
