Over a hundred years after the prophet Jonah preached in the Assyrian city of Nineveh God sent Nahum to pronounce its doom. The generation that Jonah proclaimed his eight worded sermon and the generation Nahum pronounced God’s vengeance were people of two different hearts, the downfall of their soul is seen in their refusal to turn from their evil. Nahum’s prophecy against Nineveh has been completely fulfilled.
The Value of the Soul
The greatest miracle in the book of Jonah, and one of the greatest in all the Bible is not Jonah’s surviving a three day ordeal inside the belly of that beast but in an entire city Gentile city repenting before the God of Israel at the preaching of an eight word sermon by a reluctant prophet. God shows us the value of the soul, His outreach to a city of souls and a prophet’s too!
A Cup of Strength
The man Barnabas is one of the Bible’s hidden heroes. His gift for pouring strength into others was remarkable, accompanied by his ability to see how God was working, then strengthening believers to take up a vital role. His success in this was outstanding, to the point that humanly speaking we owe a third of the New Testament to him!
