The tribe of Judah gets the lion’s share of territory amongst the tribes. Their borders are marked and cities listed but most special is the story of Caleb, his son-in-law to be, and Caleb’s daughter Achsah.
The Lord, Land and Men
Joshua, priests and leaders gather before the Lord to assign tribal territory allotments. Yahweh told Joshua that very much land remains to be possessed. Joshua is old but expected to war on. Caleb impresses us.
More War
Joshua’s conquest continues. Many days of war we are told. Moving his forces from the south he now confronts the northern kingdoms that had allied themselves against him. Thirty-one kings in all were killed.
Much War
Having made a noble recovery from a spiritual blunder in Jos 9, God granted the battlefield prayers of His servant Joshua and fights for Israel in very dramatic and awesome ways. There is much war in this chapter.
Hoodwinked
A lesson for believers to beware of making critical decisions without God. The Hivites were a condemned people who survived Israel’s conquest of the land through deception and Israel’s failure to seek the Lord.
