Arriving in Lystra, the disciples go to work preaching the Gospel. Paul, in the midst of his sermon discerns a man in the congregation who has faith to be healed from a lifelong handicap. This results in his healing, but witnesses attempted to worship Paul and Barnabas, but they insisted against such worshiped. Satan failed to corrupt the church with false worship, then stirred the Jews from Antioch and Iconium to come to Lystra, instigating the Gentiles to stone Paul to death. But Paul recovered, determined to resist Satan, went back into the city, then headed to another city, determined to preach Christ.
A Rally to Prayer
The armies of Assyria have again invaded Judah during the reign of King Hezekiah. Though in the past he capitulated to Assyria, this time he will not. Hearing the report that Assyria is determine to do to Judah what they did to the Northern Kingdom, Hezekiah goes to the house of God and sends men to ask Isaiah the prophet to pray. Isaiah was already seeking the Lord and had a ready answer. The invasion of Judah ended soon after when Yahweh sent His angel and destroyed 185,000 Assyrian troops in a single night.
Tireless Opposition
Those who opposed the gospel in Antioch Pisidia expelled Paul and Barnabas from their city. The two arrived in Iconium, some 80 miles west. There they made new converts to Christ amongst the Jews and Gentiles. Then, it was discovered that those opposed to the gospel in Iconium plotted violence against Paul and Barnabas so they fled to Lystra. But the opposition was tireless and will follow them there too.
Who’s The Man ?
The Man Who Was There
Of over a million men in Israel, it was Joshua whom God chose to succeed His servant Moses. Joshua seems to have always been a man who was there, witnessing and often participating in the miracles, the wonders, the teachings of Moses from the day of the Passover until God took Moses to heaven. A proven man of faith, and Moses’ beloved assistant. He seem to never be on the sidelines, and the first time we meet him he is appointed commander over the Israelite army against the Amalekites. It is Joshua who led Israel into the Promised Land.
