Having willfully disobeyed God, the self-willed king also lied and blamed others to cover up his own willful disobedience. Saul’s disrespectful treatment of God’s word and insincerity before God sealed his rejection.
One Last Chance
King Saul seems to have always been out of rhythm with God, and in spite of God’s help, the disharmony worsened. God then sought a man after His own heart to replace Saul, but not without one last chance.
The Gallant Prince
The gallantry of Saul’s son Jonathan on and off the battlefield shines bright like the sun in this chapter. His honorable behavior even in the face of his own father’s disgusting ways, is stark and highly beneficial to us.
Godless Rhythm
Another opportunity for Saul to show himself joined to God and ready to defend God’s people from their enemies. Sadly, typical of Saul, he was out of rhythm with God, and only in tune with his miserable self.

Having crowned Israel’s first king, Samuel gives his farewell speech to the nation, He reviews their historical and habitual drift from Yahweh as a people, then rebukes their sins, warns them, and cheers them forward.
