Having crowned Israel’s first king, Samuel gives his farewell speech to the nation, He reviews their historical and habitual drift from Yahweh as a people, then rebukes their sins, warns them, and cheers them forward.
Mobilizing Saul
After Saul was presented to the Israelites as their first king, Saul returned to farming, but when the Ammonites came against Israelites east of the Jordan, God’s spirit mobilized Saul to deliver them.
Anointing Saul
Samuel pulled Saul aside from others and anointed him with oil as Israel’s first king. Samuel then detailed events Saul will encounter on his way home, validating the anointing. Then Samuel presents their new king.
