Abraham is our example, for the scriptures say “faith was accounted to Abraham for righteousness”. Rituals and rites will NOT save us; we must stand on this. Christ died for sinners; we cannot by our good works make ourselves right with God.
Oasis
Paul offers thanksgiving and prayers to Philemon as an oasis to the Church and to believers. Philemon is said to be a refreshment to Paul and the believers who live in the city of Colosse.
Glory to God
The Angels announce the Savior Jesus’ birth to the Sheppard’s in the field. An old familiar Christmas narrative, but on this night, all the planning and preparation from the beginning of time comes into sight. The glory of God’s provision and the atonement for our sins has been set into motion.
Unearned Salvation
Our righteousness comes to us by faith not by the Law. Through faith in Jesus Christ and His redeeming death on the cross we are saved. Is the Law done away with then? By no means, the Law is fulfilled by our faith and by faith we are able to do good works.
Sin and People
By the Law, We are all sinners. Paul quotes the Old Testament, “There is none righteous, no not one;” But God has made a way, our sins can be washed away, by the atoning work of Jesus Christ. The purpose of the Law is to show us how sinful we are and why we need Jesus as our savior.
