Jonathan, King Saul’s son, admired, befriend and loved David almost instantly. Saul, because of his self-love and opposition to God, came to hate David. With this chapter David’s nightmare of being hunted begins.

David Meets Goliath
The adventures of David now intensify. Having already met his future deadly enemy Saul, king of the Jews, he now meets Goliath, in righteous indignation David slew the giant that day. He did not suffer blasphemers.
David Meets Saul
The spirit of God departed Saul and a harassing spirit came upon him. To find relief from his self-inflicted spiritual depression, David is brought into King Saul’s court to play his harp as therapy for Saul — ominous!

God asked Samuel how long he intended to mourn Saul’s being rejected by Him? He told Samuel to fill his horn with oil, go anoint the one of His choosing from the sons of Jesse. To Samuel’s surprise it was David.
