There was an obstacle before Naomi, Ruth and Boaz to overcome in court if they were to see Boaz redeem them from poverty and marry Ruth. The one man in the way did not love Ruth, but Boaz did and prevailed.

Naomi gives Ruth clear instructions on how to approach Boaz to gain Ruth’s legal opportunity for Boaz to marry her, in this Naomi is wise and clear. Virtuous Ruth obeys and finds Boaz honorable and determined.

With very little means of support, Ruth gleans grain in the fields and by God’s hand comes to the fields of Boaz. Aware of Ruth’s kindness to Naomi, he pours out support and blessings on Ruth, energizing Naomi.

The story of Ruth begins under the shadow of famine, which pressed this family to seek bread outside of the Promised Land. This famine was only the beginning of their sorrows, but God had not abandoned them.
