Nehemiah faced conspiracies to assassinate him, to ruin his reputation, he faced intimidation, accusations, collaborators, traitors and corrupt religious scoundrels. All these could not stop him, he finished the wall!
After all God had been doing in Jerusalem to restore worship and her defenses, there were still those amongst them who were oppressing the poor for their own dishonorable gain. Nehemiah puts an end to that.
Overcoming opponents and obstacles, here God’s people were surrounded by enemies with devilish intentions, along with the overwhelming work itself. Yet God raised Nehemiah to counteract the evil forces.
The work to repair Jerusalem’s walls begins. The workers labor shoulder to shoulder in the work. The Gates will strike a particular notes of association with our New Testament teachings which are highly symbolic.
Four months have passed since hearing of conditions in Jerusalem. Nehemiah has his chance to ask the king to send him to help. Upon arrival, at first, he tells no one what is in his heart and what he is going to do.
