Is the Lord leading you to serve?
We believe the desire for service should always come as a result of the Holy Spirit prompting someone and never out of a sense of obligation placed on the congregation by the leadership. However, we do realize our responsibility in "the equipping of saints for the work of the ministry " Ephesians 4:11-12. Therefore we continue to communicate where there is a need so you have opportunity to take part in that work.
Since we seek to do all things in an orderly manner, and to be consistent with the Scriptures, there are a few things we require before allowing someone to serve. First, we follow Paul's exhortation to Timothy, "And first let them be tested, and then let them serve if they are beyond reproach" 1 Timothy 3:10. Therefore we look for someone to be in regular attendance for about 6 months in order to get to know them, and for them to know us prior to serving. Secondly, there is an orientation class for the children's and usher's ministries which must be attended prior to serving in these areas. This allows someone serving in either of these areas the chance to better understand how things operate and what is expected. Please note: It is permissible for someone to attend an orientation class before they have reached 6 months attendance at the church.
